Apologetics - defending the faith against objections.

Why does one have to defend his faith? Isn't the faith in God the same trust a Muslim, Jew or Christian has for our one and the same God?  Do we all not believe in the same God or are there three different Gods? And against whom do we have to defend our faith?  Against other believers in God?  Isn't it odd that Protestants argue amongst themselves, Catholics argue with Protestants, Jews argue with Muslims and the Muslims disagree with everyone.  It is not Godly for we humans to display  all of this disagreement over our one true God.  We  all believe we came from God and we all believe that our ultimate goal is the return to God.  Why must we disagree about the process of this journey from one life to the next?
